Lack of compassion and empathy is key to demonising a population and in many ways a first step in the path to Holocaust.

If there is no compassion, if one does not feel sorry for what happens to another human being then it is easy to demonise them, to exterminate them.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott made sure in his announcement of the reward for the 5 killed in the latest shooting blood bath to flag that the 5 were illegal immigrants.

Even in the middle of the tragedy there is the clear effort to identify the untermenschen, similar to as the Nazis would call the jews and the slavs.
